With New Year's Day fast approaching, news outlets in Maine are recapping the top news stories of 2009. Noticeably absent from anyone's list of the top ten stories is the story of Bruce LaVallee Davidson. Davidson is the same sex marriage advocate charged with killing a "gay" South Portland resident, Fred Wilson.
The Record began following the story after learning that LaVallee Davidson made a heart-wrenching appeal for same sex marriage at the public hearing at the Civic Center in Augusta on April 22nd. Davidson, standing alongside his homosexual partner Buck, claimed that he and his partner "were already married in the eyes of God." Four days earlier, LaVallee Davidson allegedly shot and killed Fred Wilson with a .44 caliber handgun after a night of drug and alcohol-fueled debauchery.
Despite the sordid nature of the crime, reports published at the time portrayed Wilson and LaVallee Davidson as innocent as choirboys. To date, there has been no mention in the mainstream press of what actually happened in the basement of Fred Wilson's home in South Portland. Indeed, the mainstream press added to the confusion by reporting that the shooting was "a kind of Russian Roulette" gone wrong.
It was only after The Record learned of Fred Wilson's connections to a notorious museum in Chicago dedicated to sadomasochism, did a true picture of the crime begin to emerge. Because of the victim's connections to the sadomasochistic subculture and the location and time of the crime - a Friday night in the basement of Wilson's home - it is almost certain that the shooter and the victim were engaged in debauchery during the evening, and that LaVallee Davidson pulled the trigger in a drug and alcohol-induced stupor. This conjecture was further confirmed by the unexpected revelation that Wilson was a member of the Portland Harbor Masters, a group dedicated to the practice of sadomasochism. Incidentally, Davidson's same sex marriage partner, Buck, was not at the party that evening.
But by far the most troubling aspect of this story was LaVallee Davidson's tearful performance at the same sex marriage hearing. It is highly likely that individuals within the state government and the same sex marriage movement knew of LaVallee Davidson's alleged involvement in the shooting, but took no measures to prevent him from testifying. In May, a source told The Record that the police who guarded the Civic Center during the hearing knew that LaVallee-Davidson had killed a man four days earlier. The Record subsequently began its own inquiry into finding out who in state government knew that an alleged killer was going to testify in favor of gay marriage.
In November, the LaVallee Davidson case took a bizarre turn when the attorney for LaVallee Davidson stated that his client may have been suffering from dementia caused by a long-term incurable illness when he allegedly killed Wilson. Since the report appeared in The Record, LaVallee Davidson has undergone two separate psychiatric exams, one requested by the defense, and another requested by the prosecution. The examination requested by the prosecution was intended to ward off any claim at trial that LaVallee Davidson was either insane or suffering from diminished capacity when he killed Wilson. If LaVallee is found not guilty by reason of insanity, he may spend a brief period at a treatment facility then be released.
Jury selection for the LaVallee Davidson trial will start January 8th, and the trial will open on January 11th in Cumberland County Superior Court in Portland.
Every new revelation in the LaVallee Davidson case adds to the sordidness of the crime. What was portrayed as an accidental shooting at a congenial meeting between friends - gentle men distinguished by their gourmet cooking skills and finesse at interior decorating - was in reality the culmination of a night of depravity fueled by alcohol, drugs, and dementia. When the trial begins in early January, the courtroom will hear testimony revealing a crime like no other Maine has ever seen.
The importance of this story cannot be overstated. The LaVallee Davidson case shows that the press has colluded with gay rights activists to deceive the public about same sex marriage, claiming that same sex marriages are based on caring, monogamous relationships.
This deception culminated in an election campaign which showed the smiling faces of many 'married' homosexual couples happily hauling in their lobster traps, or standing proudly by their tractors. Mercifully, the voters of Maine saw through the deception, and voted down the extremely dangerous concept of 'same sex marriage.' But less than one month later, the state's top legislator met with gay rights activists to plan the next step in imposing same sex marriage on the people of Maine. Though ignored by the mainstream media, the killing of Fred Wilson may indeed be the biggest story of 2009.
