Peter LaBarbera, a courageous pro-family leader based in Illinois, will be in Maine in late September to speak on issues related to the People's Veto of same sex marriage.
LaBarbera is one of the nation's leading opponents of the radical homosexual rights movement, and has appeared on “The Larry King Show” FOX’s "Hannity and Colmes," and Bill O’Reilly’s "The Radio Factor." He has also appeared on Focus on the Family's radio program with Dr. James Dobson, Dr. James Kennedy's "Coral Ridge Hour" and Janet Folger's "Faith2Action" radio show.
LaBarbera, who is a graduate of the University of Michigan, and a former reporter for the Washington Times, is the founder of the organization AFTAH, or Americans for Truth About Homosexuality. LaBarbera was also the Executive Director of the Illinois Family Institute, and a policy analyst at the Family Research Council. As the director of the Illinois Family Institute, LaBarbera led the fight for a constitutional amendment to define marriage as between one man and one woman.
LaBarbera's organization is one of a handful of single-advocacy issue groups which stand against a host of powerful and wealthy homosexual rights groups, including, The Human Rights Campaign. The Human Rights Campaign has over three-quarters of a million members and an annual budget of $16 million dollars. One single homosexual rights group, the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center, boasts an annual budget of over $32 million dollars.
Though outnumbered and outgunned, LaBarbera has been a clever and resourceful opponent of the homosexual rights movement. A newsletter founded by LaBarbera in 1993, the Lambda Report, revealed that an international homosexual rights organization included pedophile groups among it members, including NAMBLA, the North American Man Boy Love Association. LaBarbera's crusading journalism led to a federal law which outlawed contributions to international organizations which advocate pedophilia.
The Lambda Report continued to uncover shocking news about the homosexual rights movement, including the efforts of GLSEN, an organization currently active in our public school system. LaBarbera was the first to report on the connection between GLSEN and the efforts of three Massachusetts state employees to indoctrinate young people into various sordid aspects of the homosexual lifestyle.
The pioneering journalistic efforts of the Lambda Report led to the formation of Americans for Truth in 1996 which since then has worked fearlessly to expose the goals and methods used by the homosexual rights movement.
LaBarbera's heroic efforts have come at a cost. In 2007, someone posted a message on a radical homosexual activist website, which suggested that the park near LaBarbera's house would make the ideal spot for a sniper to shoot LaBarbera. The message was posted on the website, "Pam's House Blend" which mixes homosexual activism with anti-Christian bigotry. The message was similar to an anonymous bomb threat which caused police to evacuate the home of a local pro-family activist, Paul Madore.
LaBarbera's speaking engagements in Maine are sure to be informative and controversial. The RECORD will publish LaBarbera's upcoming schedule in Maine as soon as it becomes available.
