After publication of this story warning of the dangers of the sadomasochistic subculture, the Christian Civic League learned the astounding news that the victim of the South Portland gay rights killing, Fred Wilson, was in fact a member of Harbor Masters, an organization in Portland which promotes sadomasochistic practices. Fred Wilson was allegedly shot and killed during a night of alcohol and drug-fueled debauchery by Bruce LaValle Davidson, who testified in favor of same sex marriage at the hearing at the Civic Center in Augusta.

Mainers pride themselves on a spirit of tolerance and inclusion. But an upcoming event by a group headquartered in Portland raises the question, should there be any limit to the spirit of toleration?
The group is called the Harbor Masters, and shortly after the vote on homosexual marriage, they will celebrate their 27th anniversary at the Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland. The photos show the members of the organization in their official uniforms and regalia. Note the military-style cap worn by the member on the right.
Harbor Masters is a homosexual organization with a difference. It promotes what is euphemistically called the "leather" lifestyle, and this includes the practice of the sexual perversion known as sadomasochism. Other practices promoted by the Harbor Masters cannot be mentioned here, for the sake of decency.
When pro-family crusader Peter LaBarbera delivered a talk at the League in September, someone in the audience asked why the public doesn't see the homosexual rights movement as "evil." Many in his audience answered that the public has been 'brainwashed' into thinking about homosexuality in a neutral light.
But the correct answer may be that few people are brave enough to call the practice of homosexuality what it really is - what God, in the Book of Leviticus, calls an "abomination." Much of the public holds a Pollyannish view of the homosexual subculture, and for that reason, sees the current debate over same sex marriage as a struggle for "marriage equality." Thus the victory or failure of our struggle against the homosexual rights movement will ultimately depend on our faithfulness to God's word.
Worse, our social institutions, our places of business, our public schools, and even our state Legislature, are coming under the control of a movement which has a distorted view of human sexuality. We may soon lose even the institution of marriage to the homosexual rights movement. This is an unpleasant reality the pro-family movement chooses to ignore; and this was Mike Heath's warning to Maine -- a message that fell on deaf ears.
In February, one of the most popular newsmen in New York was murdered in an incident that involved drugs and sadomasochism. This is not to say that sadomasochistic behavior practiced at any "leather" organization leads to real violence. The facts speak for themselves. We are merely asking Mainers to reflect on the wisdom of allowing any organization to openly promote sadomasochistic practices, and to consider if it is wise to give control of our social institutions over to the homosexual rights movement -- a movement which is still poorly understood by most.
