Homosexual rights activists are breathing a sigh of relief now that a vocal same sex marriage supporter has been convicted for manslaughter in a court in Portland. They are wrong to think this story is now going to go away. A picture of the crime is emerging which may shock the public above and beyond their already horrified reaction.
The Record is concerned about certain missing information in the case. Specifically, the crime was not reported to police until 8:00 pm on the day of the killing, allowing LaVallee-Davidson ample time to remove evidence from the locked ten-by-ten foot room called "The Dungeon." Curiously, much of the evidence related to the crime was not removed, including various paraphernalia and a computer. The question arises, just what did LaVallee-Davidson remove from the room known as the 'Dungeon,' and what was on the computer?
Sometime after his testimony at a public hearing in support of gay marriage, LaVallee-Davidson left Maine for California. The nature of the trip is unexplained, but it was certainly related to the crime. The most intriguing fact about the LaVallee-Davidson story is that both he and Fred Wilson are from Southern California, as is the leading force behind the drive for same sex marriage in Maine, Senator Larry Bliss.
Bliss, who has been on the board of several homosexual rights organizations, is originally from Los Angeles, and settled in the same neighborhood as Wilson, a third of a mile away from the house where the victim was killed. LaVallee-Davidson worked in education as did Bliss, and there may be other similarities as well. It may be that the only thing linking these three individuals from California is that they found the neighborhood near Willard Beach a pleasant place to live in, although this is highly improbable.
Bliss, of course, is the head of the Judiciary Committee of the Maine Legislature and co-chaired the hearing on same sex marriage which was held three days after the shooting. Another curious coincidence is that Wilson and LaVallee-Davidson shared similar professions. Wilson was a computer professional, and LaVallee-Davidson worked as the head of technology for a prep school.
Inquiries by The Record to Senators Larry Bliss and Terry Morrison, the two South Portland residents who are the state's only openly homosexual legislators, did not meet with a satisfactory response. When asked for documents showing any knowledge of LaVallee-Davidson or Fred Wilson, or reflected a knowledge of LaVallee-Davidson's presence at the hearings on same sex marriage, Bliss and Morrison provided no response. The requests were part of a wider inquiry into cooperation between the State House and the same sex marriage movement, an inquiry for which Bliss and Morrison provided the bare minimum of documents in order to comply with the request.
Though South Portland Police knew on the morning of April 19th that LaVallee-Davidson had killed Fred Wilson and was in possession of two loaded weapons during the crime, LaValle-Davidson was released on his own recognizance. He surrendered to South Portland police on May 13th, three weeks after committing the crime.
Another unexplained fact is that LaVallee-Davidson was originally charged with murder. Whether or not LaVallee-Davidson intended to kill Fred Wilson that night is an open question, and may be the key to understanding the crime. LaValle-Davidson may have had the notion that he could kill Wilson then claim that Wilson had wanted to commit suicide.
Same sex marriage supporters are wrong to think the LaVallee-Davidson story is going away. On the contrary, the story is growing with each passing day. The public has a right to know if anyone on the Judiciary Committee or in the gay rights movement knew Wilson or LaVallee-Davidson personally, or knew of his crime by the time of the hearing.
A growing number of people, including many who support gay marriage, are calling on the same sex marriage movement to disavow LaVallee-Davidson and his remarks at the hearing. The logical choice for a spokesman in this matter would be Larry Bliss or Terry Morrison, since both lived near the victim, had the victim as a constituent, and are active in the same sex marriage movement. Until they do so, public suspicion about the case is sure to grow.
