My, my, my!  Al Diamon is certainly agog at the "extreme behavior" exhibited by…well, just about everyone regarding the Portland School Department fiasco.

Too bad we all couldn't be as witty and "enlightened" as Mr. Diamon concerning this issue.  Something very tragic is happening to our children in the name of "benevolent intervention," and reasonable people have reacted strongly.  (Yes, even politicians.)

Diamon, on the other hand, sees this response as "extreme behavior."  What might he suggest our reaction should be to those who seem hell-bent on destroying our youth emotionally and physically?

The problem we are facing today is not just teen pregnancy, but teen promiscuity!  Sexually-transmitted diseases are way out of control—ask any doctor.  Diamon has apparently thrown in his lot with those bureaucrats and educators who would have us believe that the illegal action of providing birth control pills, patches, and condoms to pre-teen schoolchildren was done solely for the health and well-being of the children.

The mantra of this authoritative bunch seems to be that the parents of the poor, the disadvantaged, the uneducated just weren't doing their job—that's why they had to step in.  (Don't they wish we were that grateful—or that stupid!)

In the final analysis, who is gaining?  Who is benefiting from all this?  Certainly not our youth!

But let me list some possibilities of those who do stand to gain: people who make money writing sex-ed books for children in graphic detail; people who make money producing equally graphic films; people who make money manufacturing and dispensing contraceptives; people who make money performing abortions when the contraceptives fail; not to mention Planned Parenthood, which makes an average annual profit of $32.8 million ($55.8 million in 2005-06 alone).

Showering young people with contraceptives and provocative literature provides Planned Parenthood with a ready-made clientele, thereby creating a demand for its own services.  These are the powerful forces that Diamon should have attacked, instead of individuals who want a more promising future for our youth.

The truly compassionate people are trying to get our youth back on track and away from a destructive way of life—before a lot of confused students experience a bitter harvest of regret.
