Heath Lauded by National Pro-Family Leader LaBarbera
Mike Heath
League friend Peter LaBarbera, who leads Americans for Truth, recently published this report about League Executive Director Michael Heath.  It details local First Amendment opponent Steve Wessler's objection to use of Scripture in print by Heath earlier this year.  It is well worth reading in full, as is everything that Americans for Truth publishes.

Reverse Hatred, Steve Wessler and the New Totalitarians

Mike Heath of the Christian Civic League of Maine is a committed Christian who -- like millions upon millions of pro-family Americans -- opposes homosexual practice and all sex outside marriage.  But to social leftists like Steve Wessler, Heath is an extreme “hater” whose views should not even be published in a major newspaper.  Can we afford to let the anti-Christian Left become the arbiter of “hate” in America?

Heath Among Maine's Most Influential Leaders
Exec. Dir. Mike Heath
Confirming what our supporters and opponents have known all along, the local political news website PolitickerME ranked League Executive Director Mike Heath the thirty-eighth (of fifty) most influential Maine leader in its first annual "Power List 2008" this week.

PolitickerME does a good job in reporting on all things political in Maine.  We thank them for this acknowledgment and for the informative journalism they provide to politically-minded Mainers.

Mike Heath, Christian Civic League (of Maine)

"Heath is the lightning rod in Maine politics.  If it is controversial, then the chances are pretty good Heath is somewhere in the mix.  His involvement in many of the social issues that enter into the political sphere are well known and well documented.  Love or hate him, he is a force in Maine politics."

Fascinating Mars Hill Forum Available on YouTube
Rev. John Rankin
Rev. John C. Rankin is the President of the Theological Education Institute (TEI), based in Connecticut.  He is also the League's theological consultant, and has been for many years.  League executive director Mike Heath credits Rankin with linking his Christian convictions with the political call.  Heath, a veteran of countless policy battles over the past twenty years, commented, "I don't think I'd be at the League today if it weren't for John."

TEI has had an online presence for a number of years now, but recently Rev. Rankin has taken his ministry in a relatively new and bold direction.  He has created a YouTube channel for TEI, and has posted his first Mars Hill Forum video clip.

The "Is Same-Sex Marriage Good for the Nation?" posting is edited to be just over nine minutes long, and is fascinating to watch.  In it, Rev. Rankin deftly handles one of today's most contentious issues (homosexual marriage) in one of the most difficult formats (answering questions from a hostile audience).

Focus's Dobson Reaches Radio Royalty
A hearty congratulations is due Dr. James Dobson, Founder and President of Focus on the Family.  He is now among the latest inductees to the National Radio Hall of Fame.
The Christian Civic League of Maine has enjoyed its close association with Focus on the Family for almost two decades now.

Whoever said 'good guys finish last' never met the tenacious defender of traditional marriage and preborn children, Dr. James Dobson!

No cigar: [Howard] Stern again fall[s] short in Radio Hall of Fame voting

"Inductees named Thursday to the Chicago-based Hall of Fame include ... Dr. James Dobson's 'Focus on the Family,' which beat Stern and two others in the national category."

Brunswick Law Enforcement Bettering Maine
Because of a grant from the Mid-Coast Hospital's substance abuse prevention program, Brunswick law enforcement is encouraging bars and restaurants to enforce the liquor laws more vigilantly.

Read what the New York Times reported in 1911 regarding the League, which was improving Maine in a similar fashion almost one hundred years ago.

Four more eateries stung for serving alcohol to a minor

"Brunswick — In the second sting of the summer, four establishments received liquor license violations Thursday night in an operation led by Community Policing Officer Terry Goan."

Transgendered Lobby Vows to Block Christians at Polls
League's Heath to EqualityMaine: Apologize For This Intimidation Campaign

Maine's leading homosexual and cross-dressing lobby publicly declared this week to "build a presence at hundreds of polling places" this June 10th in an effort to prevent
Christians, social conservatives, evangelicals, and traditional marriage supporters from signing the YES for Marriage and Equality pro-family referendum petitions.

In a May 14th article from the homosexual New England Blade publication, EqualityMaine's Executive Director Betsy Smith "outlined...a plan that asks volunteers to stand with the people the [Christian Civic] League recruits to collect signatures for the petition."

Christian Civic League of Maine Executive Director Michael Heath said, ""I think it is disgusting that so-called 'gay' groups plan on harassing dear Christian grandmothers on Primary Election Day."

"They need to call off this totalitarian campaign of intimidation and apologize," said Heath, "Yesterday wouldn't be soon enough."

League Delivers Relief to Flood Victims in Fort Kent

Pastor Lawrence Beals holds Bangor Daily News Headlining the disaster
I ended Thursday night, the National Day of Prayer, in Mars Hill at a prayer meeting, and started Friday morning with preachers!  I joined some pastors for breakfast.  We lamented the situation in Fort Kent, and all pledged to do what we could.  One pastor asked if any non-monetary help was needed.  I told him that I didn't know, at that point.

My son, Jared, is with me on the trip.  He is driving, helping out dear ole dad.  I feel safe having a U.S. Marine Corp Corporal in the drivers seat, even if he is only 19 years old.  Ooooh  Ahhh!

Aerial photograph of the worst flooding ever on the Fish River in Fort Kent
After breakfast we made a couple media stops and arrived in Fort Kent before noon.  We were slowed in our journey by a full-size pick up truck towing a giant orange high-capacity pump.  He was, no doubt, headed for a basement in the flooded town.

The flood had receeded dramatically by the time we arrived on the scene, but the water was still visible in many places where it didn't belong.  Clouds floated lazily in a deep blue northern Maine sky.  The angry flood waters of the St. John showed no interest in putting a reflected sky blue smile on its surface.  On the contrary the river's water was in a foul muddy mood as it rushed to the atlantic, to the relief of some weary victims, I'm sure.

Heath Votes "No" on Question 1
The Christian Civic League of Maine is encouraging Christians across Maine to vote on November 6. The League's PAC, Gambling With the Way Life Should Be has placed its emphasis on Question 1, which asks "Do you want to allow a Maine tribe to run a harness racing track with slot machines and high-stakes beano games in Washington County ?"

Executive Director Michael Heath placed his NO vote by absentee ballot and said, "Mainers don't need the further temptation of another casino."
