Closed-Door Meeting on Gay Marriage - The "Tip of the Iceberg"

The Capitol Building was blanketed in white Wednesday, as snow and wind forced the postponement of a controversial meeting between Maine Senate President Elizabeth H. (Libby) Mitchell (Democrat - Kennebec County) and the leader of the state's largest homosexual rights organization. The secret, closed-door meeting came to light after a memo was released to the Christian Civic League as part of an investigation into the close cooperation between certain legislators and the homosexual rights movement. The title of the memo "Next Step" indicates that the meeting was going to be a strategy session on how to win gay marriage in Maine, despite the recent referendum in which a majority of voters voted to repeal the existing same sex marriage law.

Same-Sex Marriage Secret Augusta Meeting Press Release

The Christian Civic League of Maine has learned that Maine Senate President Elizabeth H. (Libby) Mitchell (Democrat - Kennebec County) is planning to hold a closed-door, high-level strategy meeting at her office in the Capitol with the leading proponents of homosexual marriage in the state on Wednesday, December 9th.  The meeting will be attended by State Senator Mitchell; Zachary L. (Zach) Heiden, Legal Director of the Maine Civil Liberties Union; Betsy Smith, Executive Director of EqualityMaine; and Katherine R. (Kate) Knox, an attorney for the Portland-based law firm Bernstein Shur, Sawyer, & Nelson and lobbyist for EqualityMaine.

The Christian Civic League of Maine calls on the Senate President to open this meeting to the press and to the public.  Deliberating on this matter in secret contravenes the most basic principle of our democratic form of government: that all matters concerning the public will be discussed openly and freely.

Shortly before the election, the League predicted that homosexual marriage would eventually be decisively and finally defeated. The League saw that the common sense of the people, combined with the Biblical truth about homosexuality would win out over any cynical manipulation of the political process.

Press Conference Sheds Light on Same Sex Marriage Debate

Three leaders of the pro-family movement appeared at a press conference in Augusta on Wednesday to expose the hidden agenda of the same sex marriage movement. The press conference was heavily attended by reporters who in addition to hearing the unvarnished truth about the homosexual rights movement, got a much-needed lecture on journalistic ethics.

After the three pro-family leaders huddled for prayer, Paul Madore, director of the Maine Grassroots Coalition opened the press conference by saying that the campaign for homosexual marriage was like a Hollywood production, "a "Rocky" movie in which the referee is on the fight." Throughout the press conference, Madore faulted the media for their blatantly obvious double standard in the battle over homosexual marriage.
